New Wheat Estimate Shrinks Nebraska Crop Prospects
Nebraska faces a 40,460,000 bushel wheat crop in prospect after rust and premature ripening reduce yields. Early forecasts suggested 59 million bushels, but hail damage and island heat cut acres and yields to about 17 bushels per acre on 2,330,000 acres. Despite shrinkage, average statewide yield may still meet historic levels if losses are not worse.

Politics Charged As Cook Is Ordered Out
Controversy over the removal of Dr. Harold J. Cook from his acting custodian post at Scottsbluff national monument. Cook claims San Francisco engineer C. E. Randalls has been appointed in his place and vows to withhold office and records until a full, unbiased investigation is presented to President Roosevelt. Cook, unpaid, had been appointed last fall after A. N. Mathers resigned to seek a congressional race. He accuses a Democratic clique of trying to name laborers and other workers.
