The midsummer session of the Nebraska State Sheriffs association will be in Sidney on July 30 and 31. Sheriff W W Schulz hopes for 200 attendees though exact figures depend on interest. Speakers include R B Nebergall, Lt P F Payne, and M Johnson of Denver with a talk on scientific crime detection. Additional talks by P J Heaton and R P Kepler are planned, plus an outdoor luncheon at the country club and a possible Tuesday night theater screening. W C Condit of Lincoln is the state president.

Jerry Lydiatt of Lodge Pole is hospitalized in Chappell with burns from an explosion while refilling a tractor radiator on the Bills farm four miles north of Lodge Pole. He drove to a nearby field after the blast and C O Bills rushed him to hospital.

Brokaw assures Nebraskans AAA payments safe
W H Brokaw Nebraska state AAA administrator told wheat farmers that payments under the Agricultural Adjustment Act are not threatened and will be paid. Alfalfa of Western Counties Is Banned
State entomologist L M Gates issued a temporary quarantine on Scotts Bluff and Sioux county alfalfa effective July 20 with a hearing set August 5 probably at Gering to decide on a permanent quarantine. Ralph Bunn found a serious weevil infection in the fields and said the infestation likely spread from Wyoming. Bunn's report and J T Snipes inspection indicated other alfalfa counties remain healthy.

Warren F. Covey twenty pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to the reformatory at Buena Vista Colorado for not more than ten years by Judge H E Munson in district court at Sterling Covey admitted he was one of the burglars who attempted to rob the farmers elevator safe at Peetz last Wednesday night The burglars obtained only a can of smoking tobacco They wrenched the handle from the safe pounded off the combination and tried to break into the safe from the bottom His home is Carthage New York Covey was arrested in Sidney and held for Logan county officers He was a member of carnival followers who trailed a show into Sidney two weeks ago

Hollywood Couple Hurt In Car Crash Near Sidney
Mrs. Charles Givon of Hollywood was badly injured Tuesday afternoon when the car driven by her husband plunged into a ditch west of Sidney. Mr. Givon was only slightly hurt. Mrs. Givon suffered fractured ribs, severe forehead lacerations, cuts and bruises and is recovering at a local hospital. The cause could not be determined. it is believed Mr. Givon either lost control on gravel shoulder or fell asleep at the wheel.

Hume Youngster Dies Suddenly On Monday
Alice Faye Hume three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs John Hume of Sidney died suddenly Monday afternoon after a period of illness not previously serious. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the lice funeral home with Rev G J Bolger of the Pentecostal church officiating. Interment was in Weyerts cemetery. Survivors include her parents a brother Wayne 9 and a sister Hilene.

State Fights To Get Dalton Land Assessed
The state of Nebraska appeals to the supreme court after Judge Tewell ordered the county clerk to stop collecting village taxes from J. D. Hardin Anna K. Gilgren and Hattie M. Blom whose lands adjoining Dalton were severed from the village in 1931. The county clerk had levied taxes on the theory the land remained part of the village when bonds were issued.
