Domestic grain markets inch lower in week to January 24
The United States Bureau of Agricultural Economics notes a weaker tone across grain markets as week ending January 24 sees larger domestic offerings and declines in foreign markets. Wheat holds steady amid ample marketings while corn weakens in the southwest. Barley and oats slip, rye eases, flax dull, and winter wheat rain improves prospects, with Liver pool prices sliding. Governor Bryan Proposes Major Budget Cuts for Nebraska
Governor Bryan presents a lean two year budget totaling 42 million, slicing funds from university and administrative departments. He reduces university requests to 4.3 million, trims administration to 312 thousand, and deep cuts the state agricultural board and other agencies while prioritizing road and bridge projects funded by non tax funds and federal aid. The plan lowers general fund needs by about 2.7 million from the 1929-31 level and relies on intangible and non property tax sources to support expansion.
