A corner lot of substantial value burned recently. Authorities believe insurance proceeds will cover the mortgagees, clearing the way for future handling of the property.
Sidney brick of old town could spark new yard demand
The Dwornak and Vath warehouse survived a fire largely intact, one of only two Sidney brick buildings in town. A Lexington Nebraska brick yard, started in 1886, produced bricks used for the parsonage and storage, and many chimneys. The durable Sidney brick’s era may inspire a new local brick yard to meet expected demand.

Most claims settled quickly except McMullan stock. Hartford paid inmates Casper Girman and I O F lodge in full. German Mutual paid Sitney Loan and Building association 1000 on McMullan building. J W Harper received full mortgage coverage on The Republican printing office. Dworak Vath kept about half stock with Trans Mississippi settlement. Krug Brewing Co to collect 2000 building insured by Daniel McAleese, now in Ireland. Foreclosures and suits loom over McMullan estate.

A Wednesday night blaze engulfed G D Whites general store and post office in Rebington. The store and post office records were lost, the safe protected the accounts, insurance was $1500, building owner Wm Wisner carried no insurance, and White plans to reopen once a suitable building is secured.

Mustard plaster mix up jolts Sidney hotel guests
A North River ranchman and wife registered at the Pacific hotel in Sidney. Early next morning the wife, seeking mustard for her husband, mistakenly plastered the wrong room’s occupant, Hon. Albert Cahn of Omaha, causing a startled scene. After the mix up, the husband recovered and Mr. Cahn swore to bolt his door.

Banana Belt Freezes As Cold Wave Hits Sidney
A cold wave swept Sidney and nearby areas at the start of the week. The Arctic chill peaked Monday evening around fifteen degrees below zero with twenty four below in the northeast part of the state. A light snow fell Monday night, temperatures rose Tuesday, and a batch of Arctic air threatened Wednesday night but passed away without a major blizzard.
