He warned Sidney rural youth lack supervised activities beyond single entertainment venues and urged unified annual campaigns to finance approved programs. James F. Michaud 26 field executive for the Wye Braska area Boy Scout council died Friday night at a Scottsbluff hospital after two weeks with virus pneumonia. He and his wife lived in Mitchell. Michaud came to Mitchell last May from Amache Colorado where he was a civil service instructor in a rehabilitation camp for Japanese. He had been a Scoutmaster and helped organize troops. Earlier he taught in New Mexico and Louisiana.

Soil Conservation Districts Grow Across Nebraska in 1945
Fourteen districts totaling over 5 million acres organized in Nebraska during 1945. Nebraska now has 66 districts covering 57 percent of farm and ranch acreage and 79 percent of farms. Nine more counties are organizing, including Cheyenne. Districts are managed locally by five farm supervisors with technical help from Soil Conservation Service and Agricultural Extension Service. No taxes or assessments are levied. In 1946 expect more technicians and heightened activity as districts respond to requests for assistance.

James W. Sterling 20 of Sidney died in a torpedo plane crash about twenty miles west of San Diego during maneuvers. Kubiceks Die In First Fatal Crash Of Year
An elderly couple Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kubicek of Ordville were killed when their southbound 1940 Dodge coupe was struck by an eastbound Union Pacific freight at Bronson crossing. The car was dragged a mile. both bodies were found near the wreck. The couple, ages 60 and 62, had lived in Ordville about three years after moving from Grant. They left seven children behind. Funeral services scheduled in Milligan.

The Soo News reports Lt. Col. A. H. Schmidt returns as executive officer at Sioux Ordnance Depot replacing Major Taylor Carney who plans to leave active duty in February. Schmidt spent two and a half years in the European theater since leaving Sidney. Carney will move with his family to Portsmouth Virginia upon relief after four years and three months of service, arriving at SOD in May 1943.
