Nominations Open for Sidney City Council Seats
A petition nominating J Fred Thompson for the Sidney city council is ready for filing. Thompson, a former councilman and mayor and Sidney Telegraph employee, joined the race about ten days ago. Also seeking petitions are J L Thorpe, a lawyer with Thorpe and Babcock, and Edward Bauman, an auto repair dealer with real estate holdings. Three councilmen term limits expire this spring and all will not seek reelection.

If more than six candidates are nominated a primary runoff on March 11 will decide six finalists. If six or fewer, general election April 1 decides three winners. Petitions accepted Jan 30 to Feb 9. A Feb 25 caucus at the city auditorium will nominate police judge and board of education, not council candidates.

The S S Grifone carries 7 500 tons of rotary drilling gear and supplies to Libya for Oasis Oil Company of Libya to drill its first exploratory well.
