Pork Lift prank twists in Sidney with free hog joke

Rudy Munderloh of Rudy's Market staged Operation Pork Lift to cut pork surplus. A friend removed a hog display marked Free but the meat vanished from his car and the thief slipped away with it. The incident followed by a second mystery theft as the hog remained unclaimed.

Potter Mothers March Set to Aid Polio Drive

Potter hosts the Mothers March on Polio from 6 to 7 pm Thursday in Potter and also in Sidney. Volunteers will collect door to door as porch lights signal participation. Weekend car accidents raise patrols in Cheyenne County

Four people were injured in various weekend crashes across Cheyenne County. J A Vos, 39, of Sidney, faces an operating while under the influence charge after a one car crash southwest of Sidney. E L Grgston, 21, of Porters Trailer Court, may also face charges after a crash at Greenwood Cemetery. Two children from Gurley and other motorists endured injuries in separate collisions on Highway 19 and at intersections on Jackson Street.

Donald Burr Named Assistant United States Attorney in Alaska

Donald A. Burr of Sidney with a wartime and reserve flying record is named assistant United States attorney for the Third Judicial Division in Anchorage Alaska. He previously worked at Elmendorf Air Force Base and now begins duties after a brief separation from the service. Burr and his wife Joy plan to live in Mountain View near Anchorage.

Sidney Hi Band Headlines Local School MOD Show

The Sidney High School Band will headline a March of Dimes talent show on Wednesday Jan 25 at 7 30 p m in the new auditorium. Other acts include the school chorus triple trio and several named students. Tickets are on sale and at the door. Work Begins On 13th Ave Underpass Project

Preliminary work starts on the 13th Ave underpass with Union Pacific arranging crews to drive piling for a temporary trestle. The 13th Ave crossing will close tomorrow and drivers are urged to use the Tenth or 12th Ave grades.

Sidney seeks first step toward air service in CAB hearing

Washington will host a pre hearing with Civil Aeronautics Board officials as representatives from seven states led by Nebraska outline routes for Sidney and surrounding communities. The goal is to determine which regions seek service and to assess economic feasibility, with investigations possibly taking a year.

Cheyenne County bonds sales fall short of 1954 quota

Cheyenne County residents bought 972859 in series E and H savings bonds in 1955, reaching 72.2 percent of the county quota. The 1956 quota is set at 980075, slightly higher than 1955. Nebraska total 106547803, second best since WWII. Nearby counties results shown with percentages of quota.

VFW Mid-Winter Conference Set at Scottsbluff

The Veterans of Foreign Wars announce a January 28 29 mid winter conference at Scottsbluff with national officers including William Ashburn Ray Wiseman and H R Butsam in attendance.
