Notice to subscribers from The Telegraph states that in January it will render accounts in arrears beyond six months. It urges prompt settlement and notes some balances are quite old, insisting that at least a partial payment be made this year.
Local items include weather note and notary services, shop ads for Chowins and Bergman, McMullan's groceries, and reduced prices on cloaks hats and shoes. Mentions Winkster of Lapeer, Charley Tolle from Lisco, John Boyer from North River, and several residents visiting or transacting in Sidney. A Klondyke supply carload, land blanks, missionary meeting, and a Mystery Social by W R C on January 26 are noted.
The town sees merchants who use ice consider joint capacity for summer needs. Updates include movers from Keith county settling northwest of town, a local refinery sales job, and a Goats club introduction for G A R members. Land office activity projects 15 000 to 25 000 acres added to taxable lands over two years.
About 2 o clock last Saturday morning a fire broke out in the officers’ quarters at the post just south of Wm. Stuht’s. The building burned to ashes, with little wind aiding efforts to save other structures. The fire’s origin is unknown but suspected incendiary action. Will Shoemaker had been there the day before cleaning. Custodian Stunt notified the department and an investigation by the government is anticipated.
