Belated Report on County Teachers Association Meeting

The first session of the 1898 County Teachers Association met at Lodge Pole on Saturday January 8 with twenty seven teachers and citizens in attendance. C P Chambers opened, O D Lyon accepted the gavel, Flora Ganson elected secretary, and papers on Denominate Numbers and Mental Arithmetic were presented. Awards and discussions followed, highlighting the value of the new methods and the hospitality of Lodge Pole. The afternoon featured a presentation of an International Dictionary to Chambers, and further papers on Music in Public Schools and the Source Method in History. The meeting closed after remarks by Mr Neubauer and Mr Chambers.

County Board Reappoints Doctor Despite Protest

The Sidney Nebraska county board refuses Dr Stewitts protest and appoints L G Simon M D as county physician after noting lack of bid from either applicant. Delightful Afternoon Tea for Ladies at McLernon Home

Mrs E McLernon and Mrs W J Shoemaker hosted a large gathering of their lady friends on Saturday January 15 at the McLernon home. The event featured Miss Hiett in Romeo and Juliet scenes, solo and instrumental performances, a two-table repast with pie disguises, and souvenirs for each attendee as children wandered among guests. A long guest list included many local ladies and families, concluding with warm farewells and reflections on a perfect afternoon.

Installation and Banquet for Sidney Lodges

Newly elected officers of Sidney Lodge No. 122 D of H and Sidney Lodge No. 157 AOUW were installed last Friday with members and guests present. A. Armstrong and John Daugherty led AOUW ceremonies. Master Workman P. A. Griffith thanked members and urged membership growth. Grand Chief of Honor Mrs. Peterson installed Degree of Honor officers, assisted by Mrs. Winkleman and Mrs. Griffith. A large reception followed at two long tables for about sixty guests, with talks by members before departure at 11:30 enjoying a seasonable repast and best wishes for a prosperous year.

High-Five Party Highlights Sidney Social Scene

A Tuesday evening gathering at Mr. and Mrs. Charlea Peterson's home drew Sidney's smart set for a high-spirited card party. Ten tables hosted forty plus guests as ten games determined winners and prizes. Prizes included first and second ladies, first and second gentlemen, and consolation awards.

Tax delinquency looms over Creighton cattle heirs

County Treasurer Pease reports an inquiry from Creighton estate lawyers about pre 1874 taxes. Records show none due before 1874, but after that, taxes and interest total more than 8000 dollars. The Creightons owned extensive cattle herds and many large cattle owners owe personal taxes. collecting sizable delinquent sums could ease unsettled county claims from 1894, 1906, and 1886.
