Sidney hosts Masonic area gathering and grand officers
The Sidney Masonic Temple hosted an area Masonic education meeting Saturday with about 75 attendees from Grant and Ogallala to the state line and the Platte Valley including Alliance. An evening dinner in the Masonic dining room was organized by OES Kensington led by Opal Lafler with helpers. Grand Master Roy Babbitt and other Nebraska leaders attended, and about 200 Masons from western Nebraska joined the evening session, praised by the visiting grand officers.

Donald Alfred Dannar five month old son of Mr and Mrs Charles Dannar died Saturday night in a Denver hospital after four days at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. from First Methodist Church with Rev RL Townsend officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home handling arrangements. Survivors include parents one brother David Bruce one sister Debra Kay maternal grandmother Mrs Lina Dannar Chadron and grandfathers Mr and Mrs H H Fahrenbruch Alliance.

Raymond L. Davis will represent Cheyenne County in the nationwide search for the Four Outstanding Young Farmers. The Sidney Jaycees sponsor Davis in the Nebraska State contest with Bob Lafler as chairman. Davis, 35, farms 960 acres northwest of Potter and is a WWII Air Force veteran. He renamed an old farmstead into a 1957 structure and credits soil conservation. He has served on the Agricultural Stabilization Committee, supports cub scouting, USAF reserves, Potter Co op board, Amateur Radio Club, Farm Bureau, Farmers Union, and Northwest Potter telephone line. Davis is active in church and belongs to the American Legion. State contest results will be announced at Hastings February 8-9.

William A. Rowse pleaded in nocent to first degree murder before District Judge John Kuns at Harrisburg on Jan. 17. His trial is set for Jan. 27 in the old Banner County courthouse upstairs. Rowse, 38, a laborer and mechanic, is charged in the Dec. 14 shooting of Dean Dove, a Potter oil field hauler, on a county road southwest of Harrisburg. County officials plan to move into a new courthouse early February. Rowse appeared with court appointed attorney S. E. Torgeson of Kimball.
