Lyman overcoming an 0-11 first period burst to erase an early Gurley lead, the Wildcats edged Gurley 56-55 at home. Lyman improved to 5-0 overall, 3-0 in league, while Gurley fell to 3-3 in conference play.
Local bowling notes report top scores from Vanda Philson 540 series and 191 game, Ray Cottier 531 and 193, Leoma Frerichs 527 and 189, plus others. The writer recalls a 324 series while thanking teammates for lifting three wins. January 1976 marks the Men's and Women's City Association tournaments with doubles and singles on January 17 18 and 24 25 for men, and January 25 for women with special shifts on February 1. Chappell, 2-8 on the season, lost to undefeated Imperial 82-46 after a 17-14 start. In Bayard, Chappell forced OT with 25 seconds left but Corey Brill and Bayard spoiled the comeback 79-75 in double overtime, with Bower scoring late and three Buffaloes fouling out.
Peetz Bulldogs fell to Weldona 67-27 and to Pawnee 90-60 on the road. Flaharty led with 8 and 11 points respectively as Fehringer and Wood added nine in the Pawnee game. JV and girls also dropped both ends of the weekend, with Wayne Schmauch er scoring 8 and 11 for Peetz. The varsity hosts Briggsdale next Friday.
