Frontier Airlines expressed strong interest in serving Sidney if a hard surfaced runway is built at Sidney Municipal Airport. City leaders Murrey Fuller Sigler John Hanner and Allen Karnik met Denver officials to gauge support and await a $25 000 bond election next Thursday January 27 to unlock 75 000 in federal state grants. Sterling's airport had a 50 percent traffic boost after a similar runway installation.

New Elevator Planned for Cheyenne County near Lorenzo
Farmers Union Co op Association shareholders set a special Lorenzo meeting next Tuesday at the Lorenzo school to decide on replacing the 1918 elevator with 15 000 bushels capacity. Cheyenne County Hospital May Open April Fifteenth
Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital may open to patients early with the general contractor expecting to finish by April 1. The board, meeting at Fisher's Cafe, outlined staff needs of at least 45 and a monthly payroll of 8000 to 10000 dollars. They plan 10am to 10pm visiting hours and reviewed by laws for a mixed Sidney area medical staff. The drive has raised over 21000 dollars with a 50000 dollar shortfall for construction and equipment. Steward forecasts about 5000 visitors for the opening as equipment arrivals accelerate.

March Snow Likely To Push Sidney Snowfall Near Average
Snow totals in Sidney this season rose to 12.2 inches at the CAA station in Sidney Airport with a four inch fall Monday. January averages show 5.6 inches so far and moisture at .21 inch, indicating above average snow but below average moisture. Long term records put annual Sidney snowfall at 37.2 inches, with March normally the heaviest. If March continues with snow as in 1954, the season total could approach or exceed the average.

The third annual College Day Program for Sidney area high school seniors will be held at Sidney High School on Monday January 31 from 1 30 to 4 p m. Seniors from Sidney Dalton Dix Loren zo Potter and Sund will meet with college representatives from 15 institutions to learn course requirements and costs. A major western Nebraska oil find was reported by Ryan Oil Co of Denver with the Schneider No 1 wildcat in Kimball County producing 1,400 feet of oil per hour from the sand with 19 feet of saturation.
