Norris Brown Elected United States Senator

Norris Brown has been elected United States senator to succeed Joseph H. Millard. He received the entire Republican vote in both houses. the house 67 to 31 with 2 Republicans absent, and the senate 28 to 5 with fusionists voting for Thompson. W. T. Thompson led the fusion opposition.

Delegates Named for Dry Farming Congress

Cheyenne county commissioners appoint delegates for the Dry Farming Congress to be held in Denver January 24 and 25. Haiston, Dugger, and Barlow each designate a slate of delegates including B. A. Jones, J. L. McIntosh, Lewis Brett, H. G Miller, J. D Hagerty, A. J. Davis, Dr. H. L. Scoggin, J. C. Wolfe, Fred Schank, Fred Lehmkuhl and W. R. Wood.

Engineers gain wage raise after western rail conference

The general conference of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers officials and railroad representatives west of Chicago ended last Saturday with an agreement to raise wages for all engineer classes. Road engineers will see five to twelve cents more per hundred miles, with higher increases for certain switch engineers, and the eight hour day was dropped. The raise affects about 15 000 to 18 000 engineers.

Tax Case Before Supreme Court Involving Nebraska Railroads

The Nebraska versus Burlington and Union Pacific tax dispute will be heard by the U S Supreme Court next week. The case concerns large tax sums due to counties across the state with Cheyenne County alone facing over 65000 dollars in interest for 1904 1905 and 1906 taxes.

A group of about twenty lady friends secretly planned a birthday gesture for Mrs J C Hudson. They loaded up with good things and an arm chair, visited in the afternoon, stayed for tea, and left with wishes for many birthdays and more days to enjoy the chair.

John M Adams of Cheyenne county Nebraska, owner of a 9000 acre ranch near Sidney, says shifting climate has brought evenly distributed rains, better crops, and land values rising by up to 300 percent in three years. He predicts cattle ranching will shift to integrated farming with higher priced, well cared for cattle.

Sheriff McDaniel Injured In Burlington Caboose Accident

Sheriff McDaniel was injured when a 32 caliber revolver in his holster discharged as he entered a Burlington caboose. The bullet struck his right leg twice, narrowly missing bone and an artery, and he walked to summon help. Dr. Simon treated the wounds, described as ugly and painful but not necessarily dangerous.

Odd Fellows and Rebeccas Share Joint Installation Event

Last Saturday night marked a milestone as Odd Fellows and the Rebeccas held a joint installation for the coming year. Aug Grannaman and T B Dawson led the Odd Fellows with Grace Hart and E P Osgood guiding the Rebeccas, the ceremony described as earnest and impressive. A decorated lodge room and banquet followed the installation, with all attending sharing in the feast.
