First Clothing Pick-Up Nets Over 3 Tons
The Victory Clothing Collection drive Saturday yielded an estimated three to four tons of clothing shoes and bedding. Chairman Guy V. Doran called the result very satisfactory and urged county residents to contribute more for a goal of 100 million garments. A final city drive is planned for January 26 with county chairmen coordinating drives in communities. The Sidney depot will accept donations each Saturday through January 31.

Weed district supervisors will hold a regional conference January 22 at the city hall in Gering. County Agent Wesley M. Antes of Scotts Bluff County announced the event. Morning speakers include W. L. Kletts, head of the noxious weed division. Noel S. Hanson from the college of agriculture. R. C. Kinch, state seed analyst. and J. F. Davies, state seed inspector. R A Dyke of the U S weather bureau says Nebraska’s December averaged 21.6 degrees, the coldest since 1932, with 5.6 degrees below normal. Moisture totaled .93 inches, .25 above normal, southeast counties saw record snowfall while eastern Nebraska was wetter and western areas drier.

The Navy advised Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Poquette that their son Ordnance Man 1/c Thomas Poquette, missing since November 21, 1944, is officially listed as dead. He and his crew vanished in a storm during a training flight between Natal and Bahia, Brazil, with no wreckage or remains found. Poquette trained in San Diego Norman Oklahoma Virginia Beach Banana River Elizabeth City and served in South American waters before disappearance. He has been listed as officially dead since November 22, 1945. A Sid ney boy, he was active in local school life. The Poquettes also have a daughter, Mrs. Fern Lane.

Dorothy Christensen of the Sun shine 4-H Club in Potter earns one of eight high ranking county 4-H garden champions in Nebraska and will receive a $25 Victory Bond. A second year member with four completed projects, she harvested 42.50 dollars in vegetables from a 1600 square foot garden with a 32.11 dollar profit and earned blue and red ribbons in 4-H events from 1944 to 1946.

Banner County Man Dies by Hanging in Home
Peter W. Jensen a 76 year old Banner county resident since 1886 was found hanged in his basement two miles northwest of Harrisburg. His nephew Charlie Jensen discovered the body while investigators say he had been dead at least 12 hours. A note indicated despondency over ill health. Jensen who never married lived alone on his farm and was a Danish immigrant who settled in Banner county after moving from Kansas.

More Street Lights Would Tax Capacity
The chamber of commerce was told that adding street lighting on Tenth avenue and Illinois Street would cost about $60 more per month.
