Ruling on medicine case ends decade of lawmaking
The US Supreme Court under Justice Hughes ruled that the 1906 Pure Food Law limits misbranding to identity and composition claims and not curative statements on interstate medicine trade. Congress responded with the 1912 Sherley amendment, which the court found targeted misstatements on labels or circulars. The decision allows regulation of fraudulent cure claims in transit. In another report, French planes bomb Sofia causing panic in the Bulgarian capital.
