Group Seeks School Board Action On Inter-City Junior High Athletics
A delegation led by Dr. C. J. Cornelius met the Sidney Board of Education to press for restoring seventh and eighth grade basketball to inter-school competition. The board took no action, agreeing to consider the proposal. The meeting also approved installing a stenographic lab with four dictaphone machines at four speeds wired to 25 desks, funded partly by Vocational Education Act funds, with installation in about two months. Plans include tours with the Welfare Committee and Sidney Occupational Training Center events in late January.

City Studies Now Planning Sidney Planning Proposals
The Sidney council and planning commission heard an outline from a Lincoln firm as the city adds another planning proposal. Two other proposals are on file with more expected. A decision on hiring a firm may come by month’s end to qualify for federal funds. The plan update follows years since the last adoption and aims to modernize the city. Sewage plant improvements are postponed pending talks between Sidney Industrial Corp and a major meat packer about a slaughtering and processing facility. If the plant moves forward, current sewage changes would be inadequate and delayed at least a month. Sidney’s new city manager George Felsch attended his first regular council meeting.
