Economic signs point to 1966 revival for western Nebraska
Economic observers cite rising bank deposits in Cheyenne County through 1965 and record assets at Sidney Federal and Loan Assn as signs of renewed strength. Despite ongoing Sioux Army Depot reductions, job shifts include a retraining school and plans for a state trade school and a university agricultural research station. Agricultural outlook improves with winter wheat in excellent condition and rising livestock numbers. New Sidney business school grows toward 200 students, oil production is expected to rise with secondary recovery, and the Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion strengthens regional markets. Industrial plans include a meat packing plant and Egging Co expands to meet nationwide demand, signaling a robust 1966 rebound for the area.
