His Knights of Pythias brothers led funeral rites at Kano ranch with official resolutions praising his character and offering sympathy to his family.
At a BE. V. Sumner Post meeting resolutions praised Sumner Corps No. 6 for an entertainment at the Post Hall on January 5 1884 honoring G A R officers. The committee called it a feast of abundant vittles and a fine literary treat and noted it reflected well on W R C and the G A R cause and care of old soldiers. A glove contest and a sales push at Oberfelder's urged buying shoes there.
