Sidney businessmen canvassed for 1965 Chamber of Commerce membership aiming for 100 percent participation. Thirty teams contacted 154 nonmembers. early reports show strong response with many new signups. Chamber manager Jack Laimer announced plans to publish the full membership list on Monday and Tuesday’s paper lists new members.

Sale Of School Land By Auction Proposed Again
Freshman Senator Ramey Whitney of Chappell will present a plan to the Nebraska Legislature to auction off 1.6 million acres of state owned school lands. The 1963 rental value stood near 35 million dollars. current market value is about 70 million. The bill would set a minimum price, using either a new appraisal or 150 percent of the 1963 value, and include mineral rights retention. Whitney expects auction prices to surpass appraised values, potentially doubling the base price.

School officials and educators are invited to an inaugural dinner at Ft. Sidney Motor Hotel sponsored by the Business Institute of Sidney. The new accredited school of commerce will open classes next spring in the Marathon Oil Co. building. Dr. Harry H. Hilton of the Nebraska Board of Education will speak. The program includes tests and outreach to local high schools to prepare a sizeable spring enrollment.

The Sidney Livestock Pavilion sold 1100 head of cattle and hogs on Saturday as Roy Nelson of Potter led the Angus steer calf sale at 24.70 and Irvin Wilke of Dix topped the Angus heifer calf market at 20.70. Hog top was Ernie Smith of Chappell at 16.00 with cattle mainly sent to Panhandle feedlots and northern Colorado. consignments came from neighboring counties and from Wyoming and Colorado. The next sale is Saturday January 28.

Mrs. Ferry Dies After Long Illness at 76
Nan L. Ferry 76 and longtime Cheyenne County resident died Saturday at Memorial Hospital after prolonged failing health. Funeral at First Methodist Church this afternoon, burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Born July 8, 1888 in Bertrand Neb to William J. and wife Miller. Married Feb 10, 1908 to Guy C. Ferry. farmed near Huntsman before moving to Sidney. Survived by three nephews Charles Dean Miller Rawlins and Lloyd Miller Mesa Arizona and three nieces Fern Draucker P J Ryan both Denver and Louise Misner Gering. Mr. Ferry died 1957. Member of First Methodist Church.
