Rites Saturday For Dean Of Railroaders Asa Couch
Funeral services are set for 10 am Saturday at The First Christian Church for Asa T. Couch 74 who died Wednesday afternoon at his home in Sidney. The longtime Union Pacific employee, known as the dean of local railroaders, retired in 1959 after 50 years with UP. Burial will be Greenwood Cemetery with Craig Mortuary in charge. Masonic rites will be held at the graveside by Frank Welch Lodge. Couch, born July 10, 1890 in Greenville Missouri, moved to Sidney in 1905 and rose from machinist helper to engineer, serving in the Army 1918-1919, including a noted ride with General Pershing. He married July 31, 1919 in Torrington.
