First Traffic Fatality Here In 1948 Cheyenne County
Cheyenne County reports its first traffic fatality of 1948 occurred about 7 pm Wednesday on Highway 30 near Sidney. Ramon Hernandez, about 50, of Cheyenne Wyoming, was killed while walking the highway when struck by a westbound truck driven by Loren Lehmkuhl of Lodgepole. Lehmkuhl said he swerved to miss an approaching car and was unable to avoid impact. Hernandez suffered severe injuries, and the body was taken to Gehgrig Funeral Home as sheriff deputies pursue relatives. Officers on the case were Sheriff W W Schulz Deputy Sheriff Arnold Braasch and Police Chief Harvey S Vizina.
