County directory work begins this week for a Cheyenne County directory by Rocky Mountain Directory Co. of Colorado Springs. Sales manager T. C. Shannon arrived Friday and will staff the project, including a full census of Sidney to update growth since the April 1950 government census showing Sidney at 4,894. About two weeks of intensive fieldwork are planned with George Kolzen assisting. Local hires are handling the survey.

Results of the Chamber of Commerce meeting indicate a majority of downtown retail merchants favor a 5 30 p m closing hour on weekdays. A policy was not set but will be referred to the merchants committee. Three categories were proposed service drugs and general retail with final decisions to come from the general retail group. Many merchants support remaining open until 6 30 for Sioux Depot employees.

Cheyenne County prisoner Don J. Brown 20, jailed for forgery, was moved to Lincoln Friday by Deputy Sheriff Arnold Braasch and Sidney Police Captain Bill Rezac. He will serve a one year term in the Nebraska State Penitentiary after arrest in Alliance on Christmas Day and a jail jailbreak incident. He later surrendered and attempted self harm before a district court sentencing by Judge I. J. Nisley last Thursday.
