Five Cheyenne youths sent to Gering CCC camp

Extra Month Of Aid For Farmers From WPA Payroll
The resettlement administration will grant a second month's subsistence aid to all men laid off on WPA projects when quotas were cut. Regional director Cal Ward said grants follow December rules, covering drouth employes in towns or villages, unless no further aid is needed. RA intends to continue grants through winter, aiding farmers shut down by land utilization or soil conservation projects. Ward stressed farm families will not go without subsistence this winter. 4-H Beef Sold by Sidney Men to Club Member
Claude Chambers, a 4-H member from the Sidney Draw area, sold a fattened 4-H baby beef for 98.90 to M. W. Osborn and A. J. Forbeneon, who lent the calf purchase money and paid 11 cents per pound. Drouth Relief Costs Hit WPA Burden in Nebraska

Five Years For Jail Break In Northwest Prison Break
George Kennedy, 37, jailed for escaping Morrill county jail at Bridgeport on July 26, was given a five year sentence in the state penitentiary by District Judge George W. Irwin at Gering. Kennedy pled guilty to the jail break charge as part of a dramatic escape by five inmates. Co‑defendants Joe Calvert and Jake Fields were later captured in Texas and retried for additional five year terms. Funeral Services For Johnson Held Yesterday
Funeral services for Frank Arthur Johnson, 56, were held yesterday afternoon at the Methodist church. Rev. J. J. Sheaff officiated with interment in Sidney Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold Spiker, T. G. Waddell, Harry Witters, J. C. Newton, W. T. Sharman and Henry Elsen. A trio provided music, and Johnson, born March 13, 1881 in Galesburg, Illinois, spent most of his life on the family farm in Nebraska. He married Zella Ray in 1918 and had three children, Zellabelle, Malcolm, and Arthur Ray. He was a member of the Sidney Methodist church.

Oldest Sidney Man Is Exposure Victim
A. E. Umble aged negro was found on the floor at his north side home suffering from exposure after leaving his bed during the frigid night. Neighbors said the thermometer dipped to ten below zero Tuesday, with other areas recording similar lows as a severe cold wave gripped the region. He was discovered by neighbor Herman Niemeller and appears unable to return to bed, with part of his covers pulled away while lying partly covered. The incident is part of a broader report on the ongoing deep freeze across the area.

Former Pastor Dies in Denver After 30 Years in Sidney
Rev. Edward S. Muenich aged 65, former pastor of the local Catholic church, died in a Denver hospital. Born in Hartford Wisconsin, he studied at St Marys seminary Cincinnati and was ordained in 1896 for the Omaha diocese. He had lived in Stratton Colorado the past 15 years and was remembered by pioneer residents of Sidney and Cheyenne County. He last visited Sidney during Rev Anton Link’s silver jubilee.
