Announcement that Rev. Raymond Miles, St. Patrick's Chadron pastor since 1948, is appointed pastor of St. James Parish in Kearney to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Rt. Rev. Monsignor Francis J. Tschida, V. G. Effective February 1. Rev. Robert ONeill of Elm Creek will replace Father Miles at St. Patrick's Chadron.

A federal allocation of $103,242 was approved for soil conservation work in Cheyenne County for 1957, about $10,000 above expectations and $3,000 above the initial 1956 allotment. Last year funds ran short, with a $10,000 request, $5,000 of which was returned. ACP spending was $81,000, double the 1955 amount of $40,000. Applications for ACP work are now accepted with emphasis on stubble mulching. Nebraska total federal conservation funds this year are $6,154,000 vs $6,201,000 in 1956.

Complaint Over Crime Costs Reaches Cheyenne County
Cheyenne County Attorney Pat Heaton Jr reported a citizen complaint about the $200 plus expenses to send a deputy sheriff to California to return a forgery suspect whose check was $75. Heaton said the office will continue investigating crimes and prosecuting offenders. He is clearing pending criminal complaints since taking office.

Two youths were arraigned in county court after Nebraska Safety Patrol arrested them Friday for a forged $175 check in Sidney. Daniel S. Cottam 24 pleaded innocent to forging an instrument. Floyd Metcalf 16 pleaded innocent to uttering a forged instrument. Both from Kearney could not post $1,000 bonds. Metcalf to be placed in juvenile court. Cottam accused of writing the bad check.
