Cheyenne County civil defense is fairly well organized according to County Director Robert Clark. He says a meeting will be held next week to assign deputy director duties and notes cooperation with Morrill County. Gillette urged inventories and check lists from all counties, with only about a dozen of Nebraska’s 93 counties having submitted them. State plans include subcommittees and utility involvement for defense.

First Child Of 51 Lives But Two Days
Michael Charles Tyman the first child of the New Year in Sidney died two days after birth. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Paul Tyman. A funeral service was held at Christ Episcopal Church with Rev Wright Johnson officiating. The body was sent to Denver for cremation. Gehrig Dugan Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include the parents and a 21 month old brother Stephen Thomas. The child's father works for Stearns Rogers Construction Co building a gasoline plant nearby.

Western Nebraska Sees Cold Spell With Light Snow
Colder weather prevailed in western Nebraska with only light snow traces near Cheyenne County. Sidney reported a twelve above zero reading early Thursday. A brisk wind affected western counties while a Wyoming Colorado New Mexico gale caused heavy damage elsewhere. North Platte Valley saw intermittent snowfall, but five to six inches fell east of Grand Island.

Pfeil Brothers Hurt in Highway Crash After Funeral
Three Pfeil brothers en route home from their mother's funeral in California were injured in a Sunday night crash near Hanna Wyoming. George Pfeil a Navy member sustained two fractured lumbar vertebrae a fractured facial bone and other injuries. Loren Pfeil suffered a broken collar bone knee lacerations and cuts. Al Pfeil driver escaped serious injury. An ice strip caused the wreck as the car overturned and fell twenty feet down an embankment. George and Loren were pinned under the vehicle and freed after lifting the car. George wore a steel jacket for back injuries awaiting Navy transfer to a hospital. George is stationed at San Diego Loren and Al reside in Monte Bello California.

The Ohio Oil Co says its gasoline plant three miles north of Sidney should be completed in about thirty days. It will strip excess liquids from natural gas before sending it to the pipeline supplying Sidney. Until then North Central Gas Co uses Rheiman No 1 output to service the city, with a line planned to North Platte Valley to connect.

Drilling Begins at Alliance Well Site in Box Butte County
Drilling started at a test oil well on the Bliss Sturgeon farm about 70 miles southwest of here. The well reached 280 feet on Wednesday, marking the first well begun in Box Butte county. John Linn Is Dead in Hamill Kimball Family Mourns
John T. Linn 52 a Kimball pioneer died of a heart attack while visiting Norfolk with his wife over Christmas. Born Oct 4 1898 in Kimball he was educated there and in 1940 moved to Kansas City before settling in Joplin. He was a World War I veteran and left survivors wife Vivian and five Kimball brothers.
