Probation for Koncontes in 1974 Sidney Telegraph firebombing

Lonnie L. Kocontes, 17, pleaded guilty to arson and conspiracy in the April 17, 1974 Sidney Telegraph firebombing. Judge John D. Knapp gave three years probation and ordered one third of damages repaid. Character witnesses praised his conduct and support for restoration, with possible school reentry under probation.

Cheyenne Chamber reelects Lienemann and Rowan as leaders

The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce board re-elected Gene Lienemann as president and Dan Rowan as vice president for a one year term. Directors approved about a 10 percent dues increase and discussed tying the annual meeting to bingo the 1975 membership drive and possible adoption of a Casper plan based dues scale. Ed Cole to study linking the meeting with bingo and to schedule the January event.

Cold holiday in prediction for Nebraska

The National Weather Service forecast mostly clear skies for Tuesday night and Wednesday and cold temperatures for Nebraska. Lows range from 10 above to mid teens, with New Year’s Day highs from 40 to 45 in the Panhandle and 30s elsewhere. Sleet and light snow in extreme southeastern Nebraska Tuesday caused hazardous highway conditions. Chadron and Alliance reported highs near 44 and a low around five degrees.
