Cheyenne County Treasurer Herbert Stevens announced the 1952 motor vehicle license plates go on sale Wednesday. The year returns to the old system with numeric prefixes, reverting from letters CY to 39. About five thousand passenger cars are registered. the office discourages mail applications to avoid extra costs and potential misrouting. January buyers keep their old numbers. February 1 starts first come first served. Plates are black numbers on yellow, farm plates white on black, a color discrepancy Stevens did not expect.

Gerler Well Near Cheyenne County Shows Oil Only
Shell Oil Co.'s Gerler No. 1 well on the west edge of Cheyenne County pumped ninety barrels of oil with no water in a sixteen hour test. The Sterling production office noted no full twenty four hour test yet and said the well could become an average producer for the field, which includes Wytex-Dunn No. 1 in Kimball County. The Gerler is on Joe Gerler's land in Sidney and targets the Dakota sand at about 5,532 to 5,544 feet. No immediate drilling plans were announced.

Nightmarish 9-car pileup on slick Highway 19 near Dalton
A record nine vehicles tangled on a slick ice patch four miles north of Dalton in about 15 minutes. No serious injuries reported as Mel Buskist and Arnold Austin cleared the scene and halted traffic briefly. Another Cold Wave Strikes Western Nebraska
A bitter cold front from the Rocky Mountains plunged western Nebraska into near zero readings on Monday December 31 1951. Sidney showed five above at eight am eight above at ten, with Montana and Wyoming furthest under subzero. Ice and snow created slick streets three inches of ice and runoff water as milder weekends melted crust. Weather officials warned most of Monday would stay cloudy with some clearing by evening and below zero by Tuesday morning unless the front breaks.
