Kimball County voters may decide if part of the Fair Grounds is sold to the Kimball Grade School District for a new building. After talks among county officials, the sale would need a favorable public vote before an election.
Deuel County records report Mr and Mrs Harold J Pothast of Lodgepole killed when their 1952 car was crushed by a loaded truck on U S 30 three miles east of Lodgepole. Don Bauer of Scottsbluff drove the truck. no inquest or charges. Funeral services set in Holyoke for the couple.
Weather data show February 1955 wetter than average due to a blizzard weekend February 19. The Sidney Airport station logged .62 inches of moisture from snowfall totaling 13.3 inches, while Sidney city records show .83 inches moisture. Historical norms list 5.2 inches of snow and .39 inches of moisture for February in Sidney.
The University of Nebraska Symphonic Band will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday March 15 in the Sidney High School Auditorium. Sponsored by the Sidney Rotary Club as a band benefit admission is 1 for adults. The 90 member band under director Donald Lentz rehearses thrice weekly and performs at athletic events commencements and university functions.
Greyhound Lines launches a two day goodwill campaign in Sidney to improve relations and patronage. S. B. Thulin J. F. Wood and Paul Laub will visit businesses schools clubs and hospitals while Sidney Proclaims Greyhound day and sponsors hourly free tours. A travel show with movies displays and music is planned at City Auditorium.
Sidney Public Schools Supt. O J Weymouth and High School Principal Albert Nimtz will join a university conference at Nebraska to interview 59 high school graduates from Sidney among 900 freshmen. The aim is to help educators better prepare students for college and improve orientation procedures. findings will be summarized in three weeks.
Cheyenne County Sheriff Bill Schulz announced the capture of Bill Moncrief 22 of Sterling on a breaking and entering charge in connection with the Rose Hardware Store theft in Potter on November 29. A second suspect has a warrant. Moncrief remains jailed in Cheyenne awaiting arraignment. Five rifles and shotguns were stolen. one shotgun recovered in a Denver pawn shop. Gun traced to Moncrief aided by detective work. two more firearms recovered, two still missing.
The Silver Dollar Bar and Cocktail Lounge debuts as Sidney’s first dine and dance venue in decades with opening night profits donated to the Cheyenne County Hospital Fund. Aubrey Haines previews a remodeled interior with a revised menu and new equipment while Donna Hodge leads live organ and combo performances for opening week. Free roses will greet all women guests and a Tuesday Thursday smorgasbord runs 6 to 8 p.m. nightly dinner music accompanies theHours.
A free legal aid clinic for indigent residents starts tomorrow afternoon in the Cheyenne County courthouse. The program, sponsored by the Cheyenne County Bar Association, runs weekdays from 4 to 5 p.m. in the district courtroom with rotating volunteer lawyers handling cases from intake to possible trial. District Court Clerk Ruby Spindler screens applicants for indigent status. It is the first such clinic in western Nebraska and the third in the state.
With the Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital nearing completion the campaign to finish payments and launch operations has reached 30 729 22 in contributions. Donors include Lloyd Bondegard 100 Raymond C Walker 25 Mr and Mrs Hilbert Borcher 250 Mary M Egging 50 Closmans Liquor Store 50 60 Edward Saunders 15 90 and others adding up amounts from 10 to 75 dollars.
District Judge John Kuns granted a divorce to Gertrude Merrick from Eldred Merrick on grounds of cruelty. Merrick custody of three children the home and goods and a $5,000 alimony. The couple married December 27 1942. A divorce for Lois Bauer from Eugene Bauer granted November 19 last year was vacated by mutual agreement as the parties reconcile.
Sidney police took into custody early today two Des Moines girls ages 15 and 16 identified as Margaret Saffell and Joyce Heathcote. They were found at a local cafe and are being held while authorities await their parents.
Joseph E. Frei 60 prominent Potter farmer died Saturday after brief illness. Rosary today at Gehrig and Son Mortuary at 7 30 p.m. Funeral Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Serene Catholic Church with Father officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Born May 14 1894 in Dodge Neb he moved to Potter in 1928 and married Marie Musil in 1920. Survived by wife Marie son Alvin Potter daughter Marjorie Ann Morris Washington D C. Members include St Patrick Church and Knights of Columbus. Pallbearers listed.
D. R. Thomas, Sidney lumber dealer, was elected president of the Nebraska Lumber Merchants Assn. at its Omaha annual meeting. He was accompanied by his wife and about 2,200 registered attendees were present at the gathering.

Sand saturations include 6 ft from 5 196 5 202, 2 ft from 5 230 32, 1 ft from 5 244 454 with 1 000 ft oil in 20 min DST and good gas at 30 minutes. Other wells: Jacobsen No 1 thought oil but later called dry. Mears No 1 offset to Graham No 1 shows 5 ft saturation. Ryan McMillen No 1 dry hole. Ohio Davis No 1 tests failed but plans next in Dorman Field. Other new swell locations announced across Kimball and Banner counties.
