Well Known Farmer to Retire and Move to Town

John Junker a Sunol resident plans to quit farming eleven miles northeast of here. A public sale will be held Thursday March 10 with livestock machinery and dairy herd sold to the highest bidder under Col C P Millett as auctioneer. He will rent the farm and relocate to Sunol where he owns a residence. the Junkers have tired of the farm and want to live in town.

Indicted duo to face trial in Boyer murder case at Oshkosh

County attorney charges Henry Boyer and Minnie Boyer as accessories in the Frank Boyer murder. Skeleton exhumed from a Sandhills grave after a 14 year wait. Minnie Boyer to testify February 28 in Oshkosh district court, as Tom Boyer’s role and a shared plan emerge. Bones to be used as evidence in a case overseen by Judge Day.

Popular Young Couple Weds at Catholic Church

Elizabeth Theresa Rezanina and Edward Albert Ruttner were married Monday at Saint Patrick Church at 8 30 with a small ceremony attended by family and a few friends. Rev Father Link officiated. The couple honeymoon in Denver and nearby points before settling on Mr Stuttner's farm east of town. The bride wore tan crepe Roma and pink rose bouquet. Attendants were Miss Helen Peetz and Paul Rezanina.

Sidney Debaters Fall to Julesburg Trio in Contest

The Sidney Debate team in their first performance argued the affirmative on constitutional child labor regulation and lost 2 to 1 to Julesburg. Sidney’s Viola Foster Harlan Kenton and Hollis Kepler spoke first and fought a heated rebuttal as Julesburg, led by a three-girl team upcoming March 1, maintains a 21 straight debate win streak. The event drew the Parent-Teachers Association and will precede further interschool contests as coach Storkan plans another trio for Chadron.

Lutheran Rescue Work in Austria Lecture

Miss DePauly presented a lecture and moving pictures under St Pauls Lutheran Ladies Aid. Armory seats were filled as scenes showed Austria before and after the war, Vienna’s dire condition, and efforts by rescue workers to ease hunger and immorality among displaced workers. The audience reflected on blessings in the United States.

The nine month old son of Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Morgan died on a train Wednesday while traveling with his parents to Salt Lake City Utah for treatment. The infant, Mack, had suffered injuries from a recent fall from a baby carriage.

Dust Storm Rips Western Nebraska Wheat Lands

Western Nebraska endures days of strong winds moving dust across Cheyenne County and the Pine Bluff Bushnell region. Several thousand acres of wheat may need replanting for spring crop. Buildings suffered damage including plate glass, and several chimneys toppled in Bushnell.

Slayer of Oshkosh officer seeks venue change in trial

Miles Margott charged in the fatal shooting of Oshkosh town marshal George Albee last fall will ask for a change of venue when the March district court session opens in Oshkosh Garden county. His lawyers say a fair jury cannot be seated in the county. Margott, a painter and sportsman, says he acted in self defense after Albee attempted arrest while Margott was intoxicated. He was wounded in the leg and body during the street confrontation. Albee was killed. Margott is confined in the Oshkosh jail and recently deemed fit for trial. He told this paper he never had prior trouble with Albee and regrets the incident.

Summer Fallow Weeder Widens Wheat Field Use

J F Hanson of Fremont returns from a Kansas and Colorado trip and reports wide adoption of the long-bladed Oregon stamper fallow weeder. The device, demonstrated by Alber Weaver of Bird City, Kansas, creates firm seed beds for winter wheat, reducing blowouts. Weaver operates three machines and oversees about 8,000 acres under cultivation with rapid 15 horsepower tractors.

Patriotism Lecture At St Pauls Ev Lutheran Church

A Tuesday evening presentation at St Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church featured a slide lecture titled The Life of Washington to a crowded audience. Children from the Christian Day School sang suitable selections and an illustrated hymn America the Beautiful was performed by a Walther League actress. Afterward the Sidney Walther League hosted receptions for Chappell and Potter leagues in the Cheyenne Trading Company's basement with attendees from Gurley.

Infant Mary Ellen Kendall Dies in February

Infant daughter of Mr and Mrs R J Kendall died Friday February 18. Funeral services were held at Gehrig mortuary last Saturday with burial in Sidney Cemetery. Rev Bicknell preached the service.

Colorado Growers Accept Compromise In Beet Price 1927

The Great Western Sugar Co and Mountain States Beet Growers Marketing Association of Colorado reached a 1927 beet price contract setting an initial minimum payment of eight dollars per ton in Colorado. If sugar tariffs drop before Oct 1 1928 the price may fall 2.6 cents per each percent tariff cut, but not below a one dollar per ton cut. The association urged growers to consider acreage, noting 180 000 acres in Colorado would qualify for a 50 cent output bonus, while the association opposed the tariff clause deeming it different from the growers board directive.

Illinois physician locates on a farm north of Sidney

Dr Charles Lieber his wife Mrs Lieber and their son Teddy arrived last week from Waukegan Illinois and took possession of the Bert Steele farm nine miles north of Sidney purchased earlier. The physician formerly ran a large hospital and extensive practice near Chicago seeking recreation and health in Cheyenne County Nebraska praising the county as one of the best improved farms in western Nebraska welcoming the Lieber family to the county.

Golf Association Met at Sterling Tuesday

The Colorado Nebraska Golf Association held its annual meeting in Sterling at the Graham hotel last Tuesday night. Delegates from Sidney Akron Sterling and Brush attended Fort Morgan left the association. Officers elected were Leon Fine president Paul Martin vice president and Jay Closman secretary. The 1927 schedule was outlined and scoring rules updated with a tournament planned for Sidney September 4 5 6. attendees from Sidney included Leon Fine Jay Closman R P Kepler Sam Fine and Jester Derry.
