Masque Ball a Big Success at the Opera House
The annual masquerade ball hosted by the Fire Boys drew a large crowd with many handsome costumes. Proceeds included about sixty dollars for the firemen and forty three dollars for the Catholic ladies supper. Notables such as Marshal Gates, Rushia Hart, and others attended plus a post ball report from the Modern Woodmen and A O U W. The post office observed part of Washington’s Birthday and various locals were noted at events around Sidney.

Cattle theft case and community events at Kimball
Willian Kline was charged with stealing cattle from E. M. Dodge and held on bond after arraignment. The case was continued to March 6 with a $1,000 bond. Telephone Company Expands Capital and Lines
The Independent Telephone Company has incorporated with 35000 dollars capital and will extend lines from Salesbury to Oshkosh and Potter to Redington aiming to improve systems locally and at other sites. A potential long distance line from Cheyenne to North Platt may be built, with more phones added and property improvements planned. The year’s end should mark them as owner of a leading western telephone system.

Tragic death and funeral of four month old baby boy
Mr. and Mrs. Hornaday mourn the loss of their four months old son who died suddenly likely of heart failure after a normal night. The funeral was held Monday with many grieving friends sending sympathy via The Telegraph. Also noted is the death of Car J. Thorall from pneumonia and grippe near Sidney, to be buried later in Illinois.

Union Pacific Seeks Segregation of Land North of Sutherland
The Union Pacific land department asks that a portion of government land north of Sutherland be segregated from the homestead act and titled to the company to fill altered odd sections lost to squatters before the road grant. The Interior Department decision is pending, with land filings withdrawn and attempts to file refused as the land is temporarily off the list.
