Two Cheyenne County officials filed for reelection in the off year. Cecil Hunt, Democrat and first district commissioner chair, seeks a fourth term. C W Smith, judge, runs for a full four year term on a nonpartisan ticket. Primary May 15. general November 6.
The Sidney Chamber of Commerce hosts a safflower promotional luncheon at the Elks Club featuring bankers elevator operators and county agents from Nebraska Wyoming and Colorado. J H Williams University of Nebraska agronomist will discuss safflower production. H S Robinson and C H Mencke will speak on processing and growth benefits. A Businessman-Farmer banquet follows at 6 30 p m with a film What’s Ahead in Living and a panel on the scientific reappraisal program.
State Engineer L. N. Ross outlines a slow path to a four lane Interstate highway across Nebraska. He projects Omaha to Lincoln could form by 1960, with western links via Ogallala Sidney and Kimball to Wyoming. Completion before 1969 hinges on federal-state funding and costs, with Fallon bill funding adding 32.7 million for the Omaha Lincoln segment.
IRS agent John Frenking, Sid ney, says no official policy change on penalty wheat deductions. University of Nebraska economists state the wheat penalty is not deductible as a business expense for income tax. Without an official IRS change, payments for excess acreage wheat remain deductible for farmers.

Potter resident Gertrude Wycoff 78 died Friday after a long illness in Scottsbluff. Native of Denmark she moved to Potter in 1895. Survived by four children, nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one sister. Funeral at Potter Methodist Church with Rev. Hoagland. Burial in Potter Rural Cemetery. Pallbearers named.
Trinidad C. Avila Jr., five months old of Sidney, died at home after a brief illness. Born Oct 15, 1955, he is survived by his parents, two brothers, a sister, and grandparents. Funeral services are pending at Gehrig & Son Funeral Home.
At the annual meeting the Cheyenne County Noxious Weed District discussed replacing its old jeep used to haul spraying equipment and the possibility of a small tax levy. Two directors were elected for three year terms Elwood Lostroh and Charles Bode. Tom Turner spoke on coyote control but no actions were taken.

Mrs. Dessilee Pearl Rudd 77 of Sidney died last night in Memorial Hospital. Survived by husband Anton A. Rudd two daughters Laura and Caroline Breternitz one granddaughter Norma Jean Breternitz sister Mrs Molly Vickers of Denver and brothers Jim and John Davison of Dalton. Born July 13 1878 Lebanon Ind. long time Cheyenne County resident. Member of Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star.
