Oil pioneer Ed Stockdick dies at 79 in Sidney
Ed Stockdick a western Nebraska oil foreseer died Sunday morning at 79. He will be buried Thursday from Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Masonic graveside services. Stockdick, a Sidney real estate and oil leasing pioneer, helped forecast oil near Gurley in 1949. He was born June 25, 1877 in Centerville Iowa. He married Bessie Margaret Ruhter in 1916 at Gurley. Survivors include his wife, a sister Jessie A. Tucker, and brothers Charles H. and Elmer G. Stockdick, all living in Katy Texas.

Report to Sidney police states the family dog Duchess owned by Mrs. Stanley Kirklund was bitten by a rattlesnake, likely Saturday near the Kyrklund home or a vacant King Street lot. Potter man Chris Christensen dies at 78
Final rites for Chris C. Christensen 78 will be Friday at 2 PM from First Lutheran Church in Potter with Rev. A J. Wacker officiating. Burial in Potter Cemetery. Christensen, born February 15 1897 in Denmark, died at home after months of ill health. He emigrated to Sidney in 1904 then moved to Potter in 1917 and worked 40 years for the Potter Utilities. He married Anna Sorensen November 1902 in Denmark. Survivors include wife Anna, daughter Mrs Cody Patterson of Bridgeport, sons Jess W. Christensen Potter Frost Christensen Sidney Bert Christensen Longview Wash and Harold Christensen, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and brother Jim Christensen Evanston Wash. Preceded by three brothers Pete Nels and John Christensen.
