Primary Balloting Planned For Sidney Council Nominees

Eight petitions filed by deadline for Sidney City Council seats. Four will be elected in the April 7 general election, with a primary on March 17 to trim five candidates for four-year terms. Two-year term candidates are Arlo Jones Ferris Preble and Robert Hossle. Incumbents up for reelection are Preble Cornelius and Dorwart. Robert Clark seeks State Senator instead. A caucus March 3 will nominate police judge and two school board seats. Roy Gish is current police judge.

Oil-Gas Case Hearings Set for Nebraska Commission

Six cases are set for the Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission Tuesday at the Ft. Sidney Motor Hotel starting 10 a.m. Hearings include alleged site cleanup failures after well abandonment. D. G. Hamilton of Wichita is defendant in two actions, with Continental Casualty Co. named in one. Additional filings include drilling location request by Jack H. McCollum, pooling petitions by Walter A. Ohmart Jr., Shell Oil unitization in the J sand at South Potter Field, and the commission seeking field rule changes for Dry Creek Field. Educational Lands and Funds lists three state oil and gas lease parcels in Banner Hooker Morrill counties for March 3 sale.

Hospital Remodeling Starts Soon at Memorial Hospital

Memorial Hospital will begin remodeling in about a week with completion expected in sixty days. The project adds eight rooms and enlarges the physical therapy department, laboratory, and offices, plus a new board meeting room. Ray Josten won the $17,632 bid over three other bidders.

Elks Lodge Hosts Four Lodges In Western Nebraska Meet

Sidney Elks Lodge No. 1894 will host four western Nebraska lodges Chadron Alliance Scottsbluff and Ogallala next Saturday and Sunday February 22 23 for an inter city meeting expected to draw at least 200. Each lodge will bring 10 candidates for an initiation Sunday morning chaired by Chadron. The two day program includes registration hospitality hour dancing breakfast initiation ceremony smorgasbord and a one dollar Sunday dinner. The Kings Men will perform Saturday night and Rolland Waite awaits as exalted ruler with Chester Marshall of Kearney attending.

Car License Deadline Is March First

County Treasurer Mable Jorgensen urges motor vehicle owners to renew 1964 licenses by March 1. Courthouse closes Friday and Saturday. motor department hours 8:30 to 4. Farmers may use farm plates when not leaving Nebraska. commercial plates needed if other states are involved. Local pickup trucks may use either, with many needing commercial plates. Fees rose from 8 to 15 dollars. Servicemen tax free with verified status. Refunds possible for those leaving state or county.

Town and School Caucuses Set March 3 in Four Communities

Four Cheyenne County towns will hold town and school caucuses on March 3 to nominate candidates for the April 7 general election. Dalton nominates for three town board seats, police magistrate, and two or three school board terms. Gurley plans town and school caucuses with several board terms up for grabs. Lodgepole schedules afternoon caucuses at the high school for town and school board nominations. Results will shape terms for village boards, school boards, and police magistrates in each community.

The Sidney Junior High Concert Band of 84 members will perform Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Junior High auditorium under director Ror Riedler. No admission will be charged.

Lee Store to Close Two Days for New Department Opening

The Lee Store will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday to complete preparations for the formal opening. The opening is set for nine a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled.

Eye Glasses Collected For Donation At Lodgepole

The Lodgepole Lions Club collected 70 discarded eyeglasses for donation to the needy, especially abroad. Wayne Campbell, Eye Bank chairman, and Don Hafer, club president, examine the collection during the annual Ladies Night at Lodgepole Legion Hall. About 100 attendees enjoyed a dinner and program featuring Dale E. Kindred, Frontier Airlines station manager, who spoke on airline services and presented a film, Holiday In Hawaii.
