Broadway Video-Tape Venture Aims At Home Use
Closing Night Inc founded by Fred F. Finklehoffe will tape Broadway and off Broadway productions at run ends. Taped shows would be sold to regional networks and homes with TV tape recorders. Finklehoffe forecasts about 500000 American homes with equipment within two years. Joan Hackett says TV offers steady work and artistic independence, preferring stage roles and resisting subservience. The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Theater plans fall expansion to bring foreign directors for onstage workshops with Broadway actors, its final two experiments being The Duchess of Malfi and Butterfly Queen staged by international and Chinese directors.
