County Planning Commission reviews a 70 page draft prepared by Greeley Cole and Bob Britzman for a comprehensive zoning ordinance and policy guiding land use. The plan includes agricultural, residential, estate, tourist service and industrial districts with hearings planned before adoption.

Mail service suspended to homes Monday in Cheyenne County

Postmaster Fortis Preble says mail delivery to homes will pause Monday for Presidents Day observances. Lobby mailboxes will be served, but city rural and window service are halted. 10 am to 4 pm postmark window replaces 5 25 pm. Fire breaks out at Sidney warehouse complex

A grass fire sparked by burning trash ignited dry grass in a lot near the Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Sidney warehouse on the former Sioux Army Depot property northwest of Sidney. The blaze was extinguished by the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department.

New county school district map drafted for review

Cheyenne County plans a five district map centered on Dalton Gurley Lodgepole Potter and Sidney with a March 20 review by rural boards. Livestock Day Draws Over 50 Producers in Panhandle

More than 50 area farmers and ranchers attended Panhandle Livestock Day in Cheyenne County Court House basement. University of Nebraska Extension officials spoke on modern techniques and cattle market trends while weather kept State Sen. Loren Schmit from Lincoln from addressing the group. A Hot Springs rancher remarked the cattle business is sick, noting most cows are owned by small herds under 100.

Local officials form a committee to tackle problems

After three meetings a group of Sidney officials including the City, Cheyenne County, schools, sheriff and police agree to form a committee. The aim is safety education drug awareness and family life with ongoing cooperation and better communication to ease community anxiety and promote progress.

Exon seeks 30 percent hike in Nebraska personal income tax

Gov James Exon calls for a 30 percent increase in the personal income tax rate to 13 percent of federal liability retroactive to January as part of a tight budget. He urges lawmakers to approve the measure along with a 32.4 million general fund operations budget and 41 million capital construction plan for fiscal 1975.

Lincoln AP governor James Exon proposes a 1975 76 budget with a local property tax to support technical community colleges. The state Supreme Court invalidated tied one mill funding as an unconstitutional state tax, prompting Exon to push unrestricted state aid and a local levy to cover about six to fourteen million dollars for next year.
