Chadron Farmer Preserves Vast Fossil Private Collection
Chadron area farmer Sterling Betts has built a large private fossil collection dating mostly to the Cretaceous era. Found near his farm within five miles, many specimens include baculites and a 430 to 500 million year old trilobite. Betts, a Chadron State College student, stores pieces in the Whitney depot museum on his Wayside farm and aims to teach or conduct field work after graduation.
