Sidney's Electric System To Be Debt Free By 1966
City Manager Tom Coffey announced the municipal electric system should be paid for by September 1966. If revenues stay strong, the city could retire the remaining bonds and keep about 100000 dollars in cash. Once debt free, funds may transfer to the general fund with tax benefits to citizens, though the bond ordinance restricts transfers while indebted. The system remains sound with ample capacity for years, aided by capacity additions since city took control, accommodating growth from about 4000 to 8000 residents between 1940 and 1960.
