Box Butte Station Expands Research With 1958 Projects
Box Butte Experiment Station reports three new major projects started in 1958 and potential additions in 1959 tackling ecological crop production in western Nebraska. Studies include date of seeding tests, stubble mulch, runoff plots, and methods to eradicate volunteer wheat. plans include land shaping and residue reduction research in cooperation with the University of Nebraska and Agriculture Research Service. Public outreach grew with 18 meetings, a large field day, soil judging contests, and a unique stubble mulch competition, signaling a shift to long term agronomic research for the Great Plains.
