Cubmaster Honored For Long Service In Pack 89 Banquet

Long time Cubmaster Charles Hawkins Sr was honored at Pack 89s Blue and Gold Banquet in the Elks Auditorium. The event recognized four years of service with fishing gear presented to Hawkins as he prepares to join Boy Scout work with Troop 83 alongside his sons Mike Larry and Gary.

Sidney Mayor Proclaims Boy Scout Week Theme

Mayor Dean Wilson signed a proclamation designating Feb 7 to 13 as Boy Scout Week in Sidney. Cub Scout Scott Warren, 2 years in scouting, will receive the Lion badge at the Pack 90 Blue and Gold banquet on Feb 26. Boy Scout Patrick Moon, four and a half years in scouting, holds Star rank and is a veteran of Cub and Boy Scout ranks.

Dimes King and Queen Crowned at Dance Fundraiser

The 1964 March of Dimes teenage dance will be at Elks Auditorium Sidney on Saturday Feb 8 from 9 p m to midnight. Crowning occurs about 11 p m with 14 candidates from Cheyenne County high schools including Sidney Potter Lorenzo Lodgepole Gurley Dalton and St Patrick Academy.

Elwell Honored as Outstanding Young Man of Nebraska

John Elwell Jr. will be honored by the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce at the Winter Quarterly conference in Grand Island. He is one of three Nebraskans named Outstanding Young Men, cited for leadership as Chamber of Commerce president and Western Nebraska United Chambers past president. Another Sponsor Joins 1964 Soap Box Derby in Sidney

The Platte Valley Customs Club Inc adds sponsor status to the 1964 Sidney Soap Box Derby. Founded in 1945, the club promotes safety in driving and auto care knowledge. A Saturday banquet will include state awards, followed by Sunday business to set future event sites. Local leaders discuss 1965 state convention bids and 1964 summer planning sites. The dog that bit 7 year-old Russell Hume of Peetz last Monday and caused a county wide search after it escaped was found Wednesday afternoon. Logan County Sheriff's office reported at Sterling. Don Lafler of Sidney reported the dog near an oil well location northeast of Diff.

Car Collision at Neuman and Young Streets Lodgepole

An afternoon crash at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Neuman and Young streets intersection in Lodgepole involved a southbound 1958 Oldsmobile driven by 47 year old Stanley R. Stevens and an eastbound 1962 Chevrolet driven by 18 year old Kenneth A. Payne. Payne sustained minor injuries including a hairline bump and small laceration.

Crash Survivor Wed To Former Sidney Resident

The husband of a former Sidney resident is among two survivors of a Navy cargo plane crash near Calverton New York. Six crewmen died including Capt. Edward Schultz of Albuquerque New Mexico. His wife Shirley Boyd, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wendell Boyd, is a former Sidney resident. Schultz is a radar specialist who sustained multiple injuries and underwent surgery. Mrs. Schultz and their four children were being joined by relatives in Denver en route to Albuquerque.
