$20 000 Damage Suit Against Union Pacific Filed
A $20 000 damage suit, third of its kind in district court within two weeks, was filed by C. S. Radcliffe administrator of Homer Roye estate against Union Pacific Railway. Roye, 19, was killed June 21, 1934 on the Union Pacific right of way six miles west of Sidney after being struck by an eastbound passenger train and knocked into a westbound freight. The suit claims negligence for failing to use warning devices and for Roye's visible position. Funeral services were held at Lodge Pole for Melissa Josephine Wassum 75 a prominent resident of the north Lodge Pole farming community. Rev A C Huth and Rev Beebe officiated Interment was in the Sidney cemetery Rice funeral service in charge. She was born in Virginia married William W Wassum in 1881 nine children survive including S A Wassum Tekamah M W Wassum Lodge Pole Ella M Tucker Waterles Ada L Vorhies Upton Emma J Raddatz Edith O Pierce Fuller ton and Buena G Pierce Humphrey. The family moved from Arlington to a Farm near Lodge Pole in 1908 and remained there until her death. Her husband preceded her in death.

A WPA project under Richard Brega of North Platte will start a census of general business and manufacturing firms in the panhandle. Enumerators will be assigned by county with two in Box Butte Morrill Cheyenne and Sheridan, six in Scottsbluff, and one in other district counties. Office Elimination Is Feature Of New Plan
Nebraska's 1933 county manager law may reach the state supreme court for review on constitutionality. It would eliminate about six elective officers in each adopting county and appoint a county manager to oversee finance welfare and public works. District court clerk and several others remain elected. Douglas County has adopted the plan, already upheld by a district judge. Any county may adopt it if 10 percent sign a petition and a 51 percent vote approves.
