Milk Project Gets Praise Of Teachers
The executive board of the Parent Teachers association reports satisfactory progress with the milk project in Sidney schools during January. There were 130 bottles of milk delivered daily to pupils in the East North and Junior High buildings. Teachers report splendid results and hope the program continues through February and March. They seek individual and organizational contributions to the fund. A dance will be held on Tuesday February to raise funds in homes. The milk project aims to feed every undernourished child a half pint of milk every morning.

State Tax Commissioner W H Smith reported in his annual review to Governor Cochran that Nebraska property valuations fell by 2 6 million in 1937 due to continuing bad weather. The 1937 total valuation stood at 2 058 224 967 as assessed by county officials. Prices rose from 1936 but scarce supply kept overall value down, forcing the state board of equalization to raise the levy from 1 76 to 2 64 mills and increase general fund withdrawals by 1 866 428. Transfers of liquor and estate tax receipts and higher 1937 38 appropriations over 1935 37 contributed to the rise in outlay.
