Governors Emphasize Defense Readiness At Scottsbluff Meeting
Governors Val Peterson of Nebraska and Frank Barrett of Wyoming urged nationwide defense readiness and civilian training at an Associated Chambers of Alley gathering in Scottsbluff. About 250 attendees braved snow and cold as Nebraska lawmakers and Wyoming legislators traveled from Lincoln and Cheyenne. Peterson warned Americans may doubt danger until attacked and called for unity across parties to counter Russia and strengthen UN peace efforts. Barrett accused federal leadership failures and urged reorganizing to counter Soviet vetoes while stressing preparedness to aid industrial and transport hubs.
