New Area For Oil Exploring Is Predicted

Ovid Colorado January 30 1951 Extension of oil and gas developments should reach Sedgwick County this year says Philip J Mullin regional representative of the Rocky Mountain Oil and Gas Association at the Sedgwick County Farm Bureau meeting. Exploratory work and seismograph tests are nearing completion and test wells are likely to be drilled soon. The Denver Julesburg Basin spans over four million leased acres with over four million dollars spent in the past 18 months and farmers may receive more than two million dollars in rentals this year. The oil industry spends over 260000 monthly on exploration in Colorado. Mullin notes that northeastern Colorado offers ready transport to markets via nearby pipelines and interlaced rail facilities. He adds Colorado produces only nine tenths of 1 percent of the nation’s oil yet faces taxes greater than Texas where most crude is produced. He warns new taxes would hinder immediate development. Two films on petroleum prospecting and drilling were shown following the talk.
