County farmers, aided by corn and hogs, drive a growing livestock sector with Sidney dealers handling much of the trade. A Sidney firm alone shipped hogs valued at 274 848 57 dollars over 15 business days, December 27 to January 17, with shipments loaded directly onto railcars.

Accidental Narrow Escape Near Minitaire Thursday
W W Jordan and attorney B L Hyde survived a near miss when their Chrysler sedan struck an unlit truck on the roadside near Minitaire while returning to Sidney. The radiator leaked alcohol which caused a brief fire but was quickly extinguished with minimal damage beyond bent fenders and radiator. The pair continued to Bidney without trouble.

Gering Man Buys Eatmor Bakery in Sidney

Mrs. Mary Lavina Magruder Leichty, wife of Henry Leichty and a longtime prominent community member, died Friday at her daughter Mrs Louis Wasem's home after months of illness. She was eighty, had lived with the Wasem family for eight years, and since 1886. Funeral held Sunday at the M E Church with Rev Louis Kaub, Howard's chapel handling interment at Sidney cemetery. Pioneer hardware merchant dies by suicide in Cosad store
D. P. Wilcox, a pioneer hardware merchant of Cosad, ended his life Friday morning by shooting himself in the head at the rear of his store. He died instantly before assistance could arrive. A note left by Wilcox stated the act was suicide and that no one was to blame but himself.

House Passes 35000 Fund for Nebraska Fish Hatchery
A telegram from Congressman Bob Simmons notes the House at Washington passed an appropriation bill allocating 35 000 to establish a federal fish hatchery in Nebraska. The hatchery, a branch of Spearfish South Dakota, will be located in the western part of the state though no site is fixed. It aims to stock Nebraska streams and mirror the Spearfish facility. Still Owners Given Sentence By Judge Tewell
District Judge J. L. Tewell sentenced Roy Pierce J Farrington and Roy Wrinkle after a jury conviction on ownership and operation of a still found on the Farnsworth place northeast of Minatare. Griggs Resigns as Bank Secretary to Lead Loan Co
Kirk Griggs, secretary of the Nebraska state department of trade and commerce, resigns to become president of the Occidental Building and Loan Association of Omaha. He tendered his resignation to Gov McMullen and will start duties soon. Griggs has led the state banking system since January 1925 and was elected director of the association.
