Sidney Red Raiders win Ogallala Holiday title again
Sidney High Red Raiders defeated Grant 49-38 to claim their third straight Ogallala Holiday Basketball Tournament trophy. Mike Selzer led with 14 points and 18 rebounds, while John Knicely added 11. Grant’s Mike Mathes scored 13, Rick Kent 12 as Sidney outboarded 19 to 7 and shot 20 of 56 from the floor. The win follows a 58-43 victory over Ogallala and sets up a Jan. 9 Western Conference game against the Gering Bulldogs.

Sidney player Mike Wilson placed 56th of 174 at the Orange Bowl International Junior Golf Tournament in Coral Gables Florida. Wilson opened with 76 then 80 and finished with two 84s, aided by his father Dean who accompanied him to Florida. Gary Coch of Tampa won the event.

Phil Koester of Sidney on drums and Arden Fennell of Sterling now living in Sidney were signed after an audition at the Mint Hotel Las Vegas Nev for an engagement starting February 15.
