Youth Recovers After Narrow Miss At Dam Manhole
Seven year old Larry Lucas was shaken and injured after stepping into a partially covered 300 foot manhole near the dam west of Sioux Villa during a Scout trip. Community Mourns Loss Of Benz And Weimer
Tragedy struck in Sterling and Sidney as two young men died in a one car crash. Mark Benz 20 and Gary Weimer 23 were killed when their 1965 Mustang left Front Street, hit a tree, and was cast 17 feet from impact. Weimer died at Logan County Hospital after the crash, with Benz pronounced dead at the scene. Services are set for Benz Monday at First Methodist Church, and for Weimer Saturday at First Christian Church. Burial follows at Greenwood Cemetery.

Four field wells were the new produces in the Panhandle oil fields this week as drilling activity near year end. Two wells in Kimball county one in Banner and one in Cheyenne. Midwest Petroleum Corp ran casing on Weworka field No 1 Johnson NWNE 2013 54 and a drill stem test yielded 410 feet of oil and 150 feet of oil cut mud from 6068 to 818 feet. Bardanal Engineering added another producer to Dietz field with No 2 Hinrichs NW NE NE 10 13 55 details of the test not avail able.
