Weather and farming dominate 1963 news in western Nebraska
A year of harsh winters and violent summers shaped Sidney and Cheyenne County’s story. The Minuteman program advanced quietly with 200 missiles planned in the region, while farmers faced drought, disease, and a push against a 1964 wheat support. Population shifts boost urban share, yet grain and cattle remain the backbone of the area’s economy.
