H. C. Johnson of Grand Island is appointed Sidney manager for the Nebraska Telephone Company to fill a longstanding vacancy. District Foreman Landers and Traveling Auditor Prentice were in Sidney on consecutive days this week.
The actor Clifton Mallory staged a complete four act performance of David Garrick with original scenery props and effects. The show opened at the Tobin Opera House on January 13.

Mr Cuba Clutchfield and his wife spent Christmas with his relatives in Oklahoma. They plan to move to Pendleton Oregon where Mr Clutchfield has been offered a position.
Mr and Mrs Wallace Oosterhout have moved into their new Sidney residence, the couple’s third home in the city. They previously sold the two earlier houses while establishing their new permanent address.
R A Blake has issued all warrants for premiums awarded at the County Fair. The committee regrets the delay and urges the public to know they have done their best.
Mrs. Nellie Tucker returns from Idaho and Oregon on Christmas Day and praises the trip. Johnny secures a good position in Dallas Oregon. Commissioner Brett misses the December 27 meeting for selecting sixty names for a new petit jury. a December 30 session is called. J B Cawley reports Mona North Dakota has four inches of snow and good crops with high yields and prices for wheat oats barley flax.
Charles S. Hower a 69 year old U P janitor and 22 year employee of the company received a Morris chair a burnished brass smoking set a meerschaum pipe and a purse of 875 from the railroad engineers and firemen of the third and fourth divisions on Christmas day Engineer William Morris gave the presentation speech and the veteran Grand Army member expressed deep appreciation for the thoughtful gifts and holiday cheer.
A boxing match is announced for Tobin Opera House on Monday evening January 1 between Sailor Hargis of Lexington and Tommy Smith of Omaha. The pair are evenly matched and have met before. Sidney is growing as a boxing and wrestling hub with local interest high.
John Henry Pahrmann born September 16 1850 in Germany died December 23 1911 at his home on the Fred Kurth place eight miles southeast of Sidney Nebraska aged 61 years 3 months and 6 days after a yearlong cancer battle. Survived by widow and all children Otto Ferdin Will Gustave Lena Edward Anna Margaret Albert Hugo Erika Herman Ada and others. Funeral held December 25 at 2 30 in Columbus Lutheran Church with interment in Columbus Cemetery.
A Christmas entertainment at the Methodist church on December 23 featured a song service titled The Song and the Child and Christmas recitations. Teachers trained the children with J W Harper in charge. Santa Claus visited briefly. The tree sparkled with popcorn ornaments and electric lights. Miss Wehr’s class handed out presents as Santa distributed treats to about 250 attendees.
The Lutheran church Christmas program delighted the congregation and praised for its fine music. The two year pastorless church sustained Sunday school and Dorcas society, with Mrs Trognitz leading the program and tree gift distribution. Sidney is noted for musical talent and C D Essig, absent for years, made a healthful return to the audience.
Rev A Hillert will lead Lutheran services in Dalton on Monday at 3 p m. A Christ Church Rectory party entertained Sunday School children with teachers and parents as a substitute Christmas event. Christmas Day services were held at 10 30 a m at Christ Church and regular services occur Sunday at Methodist Episcopal Church and Christ Church at 1 a m and 7 30 p m.
Mrs. Chester McDaniel is visiting Mrs. Barlow at Lodgepole this week. On Wednesday Mrs. Barlow hosted a card party in her honor and she has attended several social functions as guest of honor in other homes.
At the Methodist parsonage on Christmas Eve William L. Lee of Kimball and Katheryn K. Green of this place wed in a simple ceremony. Rev. Hayes officiated. The bride wore white satin with white roses. Miss Minnie Green attended in pale blue messaline. Roy Lee served as best man. After a wedding supper the party returned to relatives in town and Kimball. The couple plan a month in the eastern state and set up a home on Lee land near Kimball. The Telegraph wishes them happiness.
Edwin Strong leads an all eastern cast in The Cry Baby a highly praised drama to be performed Friday January 5 at Tubin Opera House. Lavish scenery accompanies a royal production promoted as a guaranteed attraction with seats available at Robinson Grocery Co.
Mr and Mrs William Riggs welcomed twins a boy and a girl born Thursday morning December 28. Mr Riggs works as a switchman for the Union Pacific Railroad.
Hon W F Cody known as Buffalo Bill greets friends in Sidney as he travels toward Cody Wyoming on Thursday. The scene highlights the famed showman’s journey during a western visit.
Harry Bixby travels to North Platte to visit friends as Dr. Bison the Eye Specialist returns for a one day appearance at the Metropolitan Hotel on Saturday January 6th.
