H. C. Johnson of Grand Island is appointed Sidney manager for the Nebraska Telephone Company to fill a longstanding vacancy. District Foreman Landers and Traveling Auditor Prentice were in Sidney on consecutive days this week.

Charles S. Hower Honored on Birthday Gift Day

Charles S. Hower a 69 year old U P janitor and 22 year employee of the company received a Morris chair a burnished brass smoking set a meerschaum pipe and a purse of 875 from the railroad engineers and firemen of the third and fourth divisions on Christmas day Engineer William Morris gave the presentation speech and the veteran Grand Army member expressed deep appreciation for the thoughtful gifts and holiday cheer.

Boxing Contest Set for Tobin Opera House

A boxing match is announced for Tobin Opera House on Monday evening January 1 between Sailor Hargis of Lexington and Tommy Smith of Omaha. The pair are evenly matched and have met before. Sidney is growing as a boxing and wrestling hub with local interest high.

Obituary of John Henry Pahrmann Dies at 61

John Henry Pahrmann born September 16 1850 in Germany died December 23 1911 at his home on the Fred Kurth place eight miles southeast of Sidney Nebraska aged 61 years 3 months and 6 days after a yearlong cancer battle. Survived by widow and all children Otto Ferdin Will Gustave Lena Edward Anna Margaret Albert Hugo Erika Herman Ada and others. Funeral held December 25 at 2 30 in Columbus Lutheran Church with interment in Columbus Cemetery.

Christmas Program at M. E. Church Delights Members

A Christmas entertainment at the Methodist church on December 23 featured a song service titled The Song and the Child and Christmas recitations. Teachers trained the children with J W Harper in charge. Santa Claus visited briefly. The tree sparkled with popcorn ornaments and electric lights. Miss Wehr’s class handed out presents as Santa distributed treats to about 250 attendees.

Christmas Program Shines at Lutheran Church

The Lutheran church Christmas program delighted the congregation and praised for its fine music. The two year pastorless church sustained Sunday school and Dorcas society, with Mrs Trognitz leading the program and tree gift distribution. Sidney is noted for musical talent and C D Essig, absent for years, made a healthful return to the audience.

Lutheran Services in Dalton and Christmas Observances

Rev A Hillert will lead Lutheran services in Dalton on Monday at 3 p m. A Christ Church Rectory party entertained Sunday School children with teachers and parents as a substitute Christmas event. Christmas Day services were held at 10 30 a m at Christ Church and regular services occur Sunday at Methodist Episcopal Church and Christ Church at 1 a m and 7 30 p m.

Christmas Eve Wedding Unites Lee and Green Couple

At the Methodist parsonage on Christmas Eve William L. Lee of Kimball and Katheryn K. Green of this place wed in a simple ceremony. Rev. Hayes officiated. The bride wore white satin with white roses. Miss Minnie Green attended in pale blue messaline. Roy Lee served as best man. After a wedding supper the party returned to relatives in town and Kimball. The couple plan a month in the eastern state and set up a home on Lee land near Kimball. The Telegraph wishes them happiness.
