Fire marshal orders Spencer Apartments condemned unless work is done
The Spencer Apartments at 7th and Illinois face demolition if required fire safety upgrades are not completed within 20 days after Dec 7. The order cites missing exits boiler room fireproofing elevator shaft enclosure outward opening doors extinguishers and updated wiring alarm heat detectors signs and other measures to bring the building into compliance. Lloyd Spencer owner and James L. Kuticka deputy state fire marshal filed the order. no objections had been filed by Dec 27 per Elva Davison District Court clerk.
