Camel Fossil Being Removed To Museum
Excavation for the removal of the giant camel fossil ne ar Lisco resumed December 18 by Nebraska state museum participants led by C. R. Schultz Thompson Stout and Jack Graham. Discovered last summer by W. F. Chaloupka and T. C. Middleswart the skeleton is believed to be the largest camel ever found with more remains expected in the area. University of Nebraska scientists say these mammoth animals roamed western plains about a million years ago. Skulls already excavated measure 36 to 40 inches with jaws 26 to 30 inches. Dr. Erwin H. Barbour calls the find unique and says it may open a new field of fossil searching in western Nebraska. Chaloupka Middleswart and S. C. Sweet led the digging and unearthed the huge head.

Earthquake Tremor Reported Near Sidney Farm
Ray Wills, a farmer 25 miles northwest of Sidney, reports a minor earthquake Tuesday morning at about 6 50. He says his house shook dishes rattled and the family dog fled beneath the house. He believed wagon noise first but saw no moving vehicles. He suspects other farmers nearby noticed the tremors.

Rites Held Thursday for W H Wiker Sidney Resident
William Homer Wiker 61 prominent Sidney and Cheyenne county resident died Tuesday at a local hospital after months of failing health. He moved with his family to Cheyenne county at age nine, the homestead west of Dalton. At 16 he studied optometry and practiced in Sidney before retiring three years ago. He married Mable Halston on October 1 1928. Wiker had many friends and remained in Sidney after retirement.Continued on page 8 column 2.

Golden Gloves Meet Planned At Alliance
Entrants from four states Nebraska Wyoming Colorado and South Dakota expected for a Golden Gloves boxing tournament in Alliance January 26 27 28. Sponsored by Alliance Times Herald and American Legion. Eight weight classes from flyweight to heavyweight with trophies for class winners. Winners travel expenses paid to Omaha and entered in the Golden Gloves there. Travel meals and lodging paid for all entrants. Elimination bouts January 26 27 with finals January 28. J C Hand Home Is Decoration Winner
The James L. Hand residence at 1216 its avenue won first prize in the Christmas lighting contest. Division A winners received an electrical appliance from the Western Public Service Company. Louis Grage's home won division B for small decorations, also getting an appliance. Second and third places went to J L Tewell and Dr. Roche in A, and J W Nielsen and G H Doran in B. New Phone System Is Installed At Kimball
E. E. White manager of the local exchange and Miss Gladys Bell chief operator attended ceremonies at Kimball Monday afternoon in observance of hooking up telephone service from the old building to the new Northwestern Bell Telephone company home. The old cranking system was replaced by the modern common battery type. It took seven seconds to connect. The first call was immediately made by the mayor of Kimball.

Anderson Enjoined From Practice Here In Sidney
District Judge J. L. Tewell enjoined Dr. Martin F. Anderson from practicing medicine or surgery within 50 miles of Sidney for three years, until December 20, 1940. The injunction follows a suit by Dr. J. R. Taylor who claimed a contract prevented Anderson from practicing near Sidney if his employment with Taylor ended.

Nebraska farm data show a slight rise in total crop acres from 1936 to 1937, but winter wheat yields were lower. Mrs Rosella Holtman former Sidney Lodge Pole resident hanged herself in Cheyenne basement. Funeral held at Lodge Pole with interment there. Despondency given as cause as husband job loss left four children in need. Welfare director denied indirect responsibility and offered transport back to Sidney which the family declined. Donald Holtman 19 left CCC after 10 days. inquiry found no proof of destitution. Monday Holtman spent last dollar on dinner for five.

Mrs. Lillian C. Reed, 78, died at her Dalton home early Thursday. A Dalton resident since 1907, born in Logan County Iowa, she married John L. Reed in 1876. New 1938 auto license plates are becoming familiar in Cheyenne county this week. Plates went on sale Monday morning at the county treasurer's office and immediately a rush for the plates resulted. It is necessary to have automobile taxes paid up to date before a license may be secured. This receipt of payment and certificate of registration should be brought along when application is made for the plates.

Fred Anderson Injured Toward West of Town Auto Crash
Fred Anderson, a passenger in a car driven by John Owens, received a fractured vertebrae when the automobile skidded and overturned west of town Tuesday morning. He was treated at Taylor hospital and placed in a brace, with confinement to bed for several weeks. Owens and five children in the vehicle escaped injury.
